The Story

Why GetFIFOReady exists.

I work FIFO at a Queensland underground mine. Haulage during my shift work, and I'm on the Emergency Response Team — the crew that trains for the worst-case scenarios on site. My roster is 7-on/7-off, Thursday to Thursday, alternating between day shift and night shift. That's my actual working life.

I built GetFIFOReady after seeing capable people struggle to turn non-mining experience into a clear, targeted FIFO application.

A resume or application may be one factor alongside role requirements, competition, timing, location and work rights. GetFIFOReady helps applicants improve the parts they can control.

The same mistakes, every time:

  • A generic resume that hides relevant safety, reliability and shift-work evidence
  • Applying for roles that aren't realistic entry points — or applying for "anything FIFO"
  • Buying tickets that no ad actually asks for, because someone on Facebook said to
  • No safety language, no shift readiness, no evidence of reliability
  • Burying real, transferable experience under generic summaries

I know what site work demands because I live it: safety discipline, reliability, clear communication, fatigue management and following procedure. GetFIFOReady applies that worker-side perspective to help applicants present relevant evidence clearly—without pretending to speak for recruiters or employers.

Why FIFO works for me

Outside of work, I’m a family man and enjoy surfing, playing golf and keeping fit. FIFO has its trade-offs and being away isn’t always easy, but one of the reasons I value the lifestyle is the solid blocks of time it gives me at home.

When I’m off, I can be properly present with my family and still have time for the things I enjoy. That balance is a big part of why I’ve stayed in the industry. I know a lot of people aren’t chasing FIFO purely for the pay. They’re hoping it can help them build a better life outside work too.

GetFIFOReady is straightforward guidance from current site experience, aimed at helping applicants present relevant evidence clearly without promising hiring outcomes.

Why trust GetFIFOReady

Credibility that comes from being on site.

⛏️ Real FIFO Experience

PJ works in underground haulage and serves on an Emergency Response Team in Queensland. GetFIFOReady draws on lived site experience without identifying or speaking for his employer.
